5 Things to Look For When Interviewing Potential Candidates

When interviewing a candidate, you need to take into account more than just the answers they give to your questions. Here are some things to look for during a job interview.

Are They Prepared?

If someone is serious about their job, they will make sure to prepare properly for their job interview. This means that they will rehearse questions that you are likely to ask and come up with answers. If your questions are met with blank stares, that should raise a red flag.

Are They Being Themselves?

You also want them to be themselves. You do not want a candidate who answers every question with what seems like a memorized script.

Are They Confident?

Confidence is also something you should look for. It is normal for candidates to be nervous. However, they should be confident with themselves, with the answers they give, and with their abilities overall.

Do They Have Great Communication Skills?

It is important to choose a candidate that communicates well. A candidate without good communication skills can cause problems down the road. Without being able to communicate with management and other team members properly, they may not be able to get things done.

Can They Give Examples?

If the candidate makes claims about their abilities or work ethics, such as if they claim to get more work done in a shorter period of time, ask them for concrete examples of things they have done that back up their claims. Anyone can boast, so make sure they are the real thing.
